Mountain bikes, XC and bikepacking

A good thing has many names! Important is to keep your equipment in good shape and tell what you have and what is the purpose of your rental fleet.

MTB, XC, bikebacking bikes
We give You an overview of our MTB fleet. Not 100% MTB bikes listed here by model and sizes but you get rough idea level of the fleet we rent.
We have 42 mountain bikes in sizes XS to XXL. Models to mention:

  • Superior Sport XC
  • Cube Attention
  • Cannondale Trail Three
  • Merida Big 9 limited
  • Orbea Alma
  • Trek Roscoe 6
  • Mondraker Phase
  • Breezer Thunder
  • Focus Whistler 3.9

The majority of our bicycles are 1 x 11 or 1 x 12 or 2 x 9 speed, mostly Shimano components. No Carbon frames, no dropper posts, no tubeless tires.
90% of the bikes are with air chocks.

The reason our mountain bike fleet is so varied is COVID-19. During our restocking period 2022 and 2023 there was shortage of stock on bike suppliers. And we bought what we could get, suppliers all over Estonia and beyond 🙂

How do we rent the bikes?
In our Old town premises we keep around 90 bikes and in our big warehouse base we keep 160 bikes. Around 10-15 MTB-s are on average in our office, ready to use.
We have an online booking system and all our resources are available there. Most likely we have bikes free if you walk in and want to start your rental (your size of frame). But not always .. so it’s always safer to book in advance!

We strongly recommend booking Your bike in advance if you want to use it for longer trips and want to be sure the bike(s) are waiting for you at your planned starting time.  All long rentals will be prepared, bikes checked by mechanics, pedals changed and extra gear attached etc. Every rental includes: repair kit, lock, helmet.

Extra gear to rent:
You can have Shimano SPD pedals or bring your own clipless version. Standard stock seats, own saddle welcome. Small frame bag included if you want to have repair set (small pump, multi tool, tire lever, spare tube). https://citybike.ee/bike-rental

Ortlieb bags to rent:

– Ortlieb frame-pack
– Ortlieb handlebar-pack
– Ortlieb seat.pack
– Waterproof bags 4-16.5 liters.

Racks not compatible on most of our mountain bikes, sometimes it is possible. Ask before you plan a load of luggage on our rental bike, hope we can find the solution.

– SPD or SPD SL pedals
– powerbank and phone holder onto handlebar
– GPS device or just a holder to the handlebar

Estonian bikepacking scene
We love cycling in the Estonian countryside, trails, gravel roads, mixed terrains and exploring a vast network of existing trails.
Depending on the surface and conditions, the best bikes for this, gravel or mountain bikes. Gravel bikes we have are described HERE (most people use them for touring and on tarmac or gravel roads in Estonia. Attaching a light rack at the back and perhaps frame bag and if needed additional handlebar bag).

Tallinn is a green city, with over 50 parks. And all of them you can ride, they are usually not crowded, some pedestrians perhaps but surely you can give them safe passage by.

Routes and trails
There is a good network of trails to explore. We provide GPX tracks and general advice, also daytrip ideas. New short trip ideas are Tallinn-Haapsalu and Tallinn – Lahemaa – Rakvere offroad trips (they will be ready by May 2025).

For shorter rides Estonian Health trails terviserajad.ee in Tallinn and all over Estonia. Those are well marked, used for running, cycling and skiing in winter. All free to visit.

And of course popular RMK longdistance trails – those are good and we recommend them. 4 longdistance trails with over 2000 km to ride.
